What is a Guardian Home?

At Rosewood Puppies, we believe that dogs thrive when they’re part of a family, and we’re committed to providing the moms and dads in our program with lots of one-on-one love and attention. In order to make this a reality, we place some of our breeding dogs in guardian homes.

Guardian homes are the forever homes of our breeding dogs. Approved guardian families get the opportunity to raise our “pick of the litter”, a healthy puppy with an excellent temperament, free of charge. Guardians agree to provide the love, care, exercise and training required so breeding dogs can grow to be happy and healthy doggy parents. We are here for our guardian families, who receive all the benefits and support that regular clients get from buying from us.

Once they are retired, breeding rights are discontinued and our guardian families become sole owners once spaying/neutering is completed. Guardian families will be the owners of a well-bred, health tested puppy with a great personality, at no upfront cost.

How it works

We breed a female guardian dog 2-3 times before retiring her. During her second or third heat (at about 2 years old), she is introduced to one of our approved studs for mating. Ten days before her due date, we bring her into our home so she can settle in before having her puppies with us. We love having our guardian pups back with us, and we spoil them thoroughly when they are in our care. Momma dogs stay with us until their puppies are weaned (4-8 weeks after birth), and then she returns to her guardian home. Guardians are more than welcome to come visit their Momma dog and to watch how her puppies grow!

A male guardian dog is bred until he is 6 years old, at which point he retires. He is used in our breeding program as well as in other respectable breeding programs. We expect to use a stud 4-8 times a year, and will always give guardian homes at least a week’s notice before requiring him.

Once a guardian dog is retired, the dog is neutered/spayed, and the guardian becomes the sole owner of their precious dog!
